We had success on Tuesday playing home underdogs in the right spot and pouncing on significantly better road favorites. On Wednesday, we made a mistake backing the wrong road favorites during a big night for upsets.
Thursday night doesn't feature a ton of marquee conference games, with more mid-major contests filling the schedule. Let's get to our two plays for Thursday night's college basketball slate.
Michigan @ Maryland (-6, O/U 139.5)
Both Maryland and Michigan will sit at the bottom of the Big Ten standings when the season ends. Maryland is one of the worst shooting teams in the country and relies too much on underclassmen who can't shoot or score consistently.
Jahmir Young has been the only positive for the Terps this season - and he scores more from getting downhill rather than shooting on the perimeter. Maryland ranks second-to-last in the Big Ten in points per game and 66% of its games have gone under the total - including the last three.
The Wolverines' offense is better, but the team is playing without their leading scorer Dug McDaniel as he serves a suspension. Michigan's offense will suffer without McDaniel, especially on the road against a physical Terps defense.
Pick: Under 139.5
Monmouth @ UNC Wilmington (-8.5, O/U 143.5)
UNC Wilmington is off to a rough 0-2 start in the Colonial Athletic Conference while Monmouth is 2-0. UNC Wilmington should play desperate at home looking for its first conference win.
Despite the early conference records, UNC Wilmington is significantly more talented and better on both ends. The program boasts an impressive non-conference resume, which included an upset win over Kentucky.
KenPom ranks UNC Wilmington 65 spots ahead of Monmouth. Expect a dominant and motivated performance at home from UNC Wilmington.
Pick: UNC Wilmington -8.5
