<p>The College Football Playoff picture is taking shape with just two weeks left in the regular season. Other than the automatic conference champion qualifiers and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/501" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/501">Notre Dame's</a> likely appearance as an independent school, most of the 12-team field will feature SEC and Big Ten teams. </table></div></figure><p>It's clear the CFP selection committee doesn't value strength of schedule as much as many believe it should. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/634" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/634">Texas</a> is the highest-ranked SEC team despite all of its conference wins coming against five of the bottom seven teams in the standings. The Longhorns were dominated by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/255" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/255">Georgia</a> in their only game against quality competition.</p><p>Texas can make a statement in its final regular-season game against No. 15 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/635" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/635">Texas A&amp;M</a>. A loss could see the Longhorns slip out of the playoff picture entirely, but a win would guarantee their spot and book them a trip to the SEC championship. Texas A&amp;M, currently among the first four out, would force the committee to consider its entry with a win.</p><p>Georgia is undervalued. The Bulldogs have had the hardest schedule in the country, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/fpi/_/view/resume/sort/resume.avgsosrank/dir/asc">ESPN</a>'s College Football Power Index, their only two losses have come to top-10 teams (<a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/40" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/40">Alabama</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/425" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/425">Ole Miss</a>), and they have wins against three top-15 teams, including Texas and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/630" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/630">Tennessee</a>.</p><p>Ole Miss and Alabama also have two losses but beat the Bulldogs earlier this season, so they're ahead of them in the ranking. But Georgia is seven slots below a Texas team it beat on the road. Make it make sense.</p><p>Tennessee is ranked 11th but is currently out of the picture because projected conference champions <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/99" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/99">Boise State</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaaf/teams/107" href="https://thescore.com/ncaaf/teams/107">BYU</a> would earn automatic bids and leap the Volunteers.</p><p>There's also the possibility that a two-loss SEC team earns a trip to the SEC championship and suffers its third loss, which could hurt its ranking. It remains to be seen if the committee will penalize teams for being forced to play an extra game because it was atop the standings. </p><p>Regardless, the SEC will have a minimum of four teams. How the committee views fringe SEC teams against their Big Ten counterparts will determine if they earn a fifth squad. However, the Hoosiers have had the easiest schedule among all 34 SEC and Big Ten programs.</p><p>But does the committee care? Seemingly no. Indiana is ranked ahead of all but one SEC school. Even if (when) Indiana loses to Ohio State this weekend, it shouldn't impact the Hoosiers' standing. Granted, that could change if Indiana gets annihilated.</p><p>The final slot will presumably be between a one-loss Indiana squad and a two-loss SEC school like Tennessee. The Volunteers lost to Georgia and Arkansas but have a top-20 strength of schedule, and their best win was over a top-10 Alabama team. Charles Woodson in 1997 is the only defensive player to win.</p><p>Hunter's campaign as a multi-positional athlete makes his case unique. They're the sixth team in NBA history to win 13 straight to open a season. Cleveland fired J.B. Bickerstaff after that second-round exit to Boston, and hired Kenny Atkinson, who's emphasized ball movement and playing with pace. The Cavs' balanced, unselfish offense has the league's best offensive rating.</p><p>Cleveland is one of two top-10 offenses without a top-20 scorer, but it has six players averaging double figures. After reported tension between <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/44998" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/44998">Donovan Mitchell </a>and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/70243" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/70243">Darius Garland</a> last offseason, the backcourt duo is working brilliantly together, taking turns scoring and often deferring to each other.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/96054" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/96054">Evan Mobley</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/53393" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/53393">Jarrett Allen</a> are a terrorizing frontcourt duo as versatile defensive bigs who protect the rim effectively. However, the Big Three's debut showcase is delayed again without Maxey.</p><p>It's always sunny in Philadelphia, isn't it? </p><p>The rest of the East got a head start as the Sixers' shenanigans hurt them in the standings, but conference rivals didn't take advantage. Only two Eastern Conference teams are above .500 - the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/1" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/1">Celtics</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/7" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/7">Cavs</a>. Potential contenders such as the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/10" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/10">Bucks</a>, Knicks, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/14" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/14">Magic</a> have struggled for various reasons. The Sixers have the fourth-best odds (+900) to win the East behind the Celtics, Knicks, and Cavs and have a 90% implied probability of making the playoffs.</p><p>Philadelphia's first opportunity to make up some ground with Embiid in the fold comes against the Knicks. New York eliminated the Sixers in the first round last season while successfully limiting a hobbled Embiid during crucial stretches, but this is a different squad. How much should fans expect from Embiid in his season debut?</p><p>Embiid is presumably healthy and well-conditioned enough to play. However, the Sixers have made it abundantly clear they will be extra cautious with their 7-footer in hopes of dragging him into the postseason healthy.</p><p>He's never played more than 35 minutes per game in a season. It's fair to assume he'll be on a minutes restriction against New York that won't exceed 30. George is on a minutes restriction as well.</p><p>All the off-court drama surrounding Embiid makes it easy to forget he's one of the best per-minute scorers in NBA history. He's averaged at least 33 points and 10 boards each of the past two seasons. Embiid's transition to a larger playmaking role led to higher assist totals. His assists should climb even higher this season while he operates as a hub alongside George and Maxey.</p><p>Embiid won't face <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/62053" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/62053">Mitchell Robinson</a> or <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/60051" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/60051">Isaiah Hartenstein</a>, two centers who troubled him in the playoffs. Robinson is injured and Hartenstein left New York for Oklahoma City. Their absences created a hole in the Knicks' frontcourt that new addition <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/37817" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/37817">Karl-Anthony Towns</a> can't fill. Towns is a huge offensive upgrade, but he isn't a natural center, and his lack of rim protection has hurt the Knicks' defense. New York's starting unit has the worst defensive rating and second-best offensive rating among lineups that have played at least 100 minutes together. The former Minnesota big allows opponents to shoot 91% in the restricted area, per ESPN Stats and Info.</p><p>Simply put, Towns can't properly protect the rim as a center. As I wrote when the trade <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3087503" href="https://thescore.com/news/3087503">went down</a>, there's a reason the <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/teams/27" href="https://thescore.com/nba/teams/27">Timberwolves</a> brought in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/30615" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/30615">Rudy Gobert</a> and moved Towns to power forward years ago.</p><p>That bodes well for Embiid to feast inside. His points prop is set for 25.5, his rebounds prop is 9.5, and his assists prop is 4.5. His combined points, rebounds, and assists total is 38.5, and he's +2200 to record a triple-double. He scored at least 26 points in 36 of his 39 games last season, and he can easily exceed that Tuesday while shaking off some rust and playing fewer minutes.</p><p>Aside from the defensive concerns, the Knicks have no reliable bench pieces besides <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/96035" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/96035">Miles McBride</a>. They rank last in bench points and minutes. As a result, New York's starters become fatigued from huge workloads. The Knicks have been outscored by 13.7 points per 100 possessions in the fourth quarter, the NBA's second-worst mark. They have the worst clutch net rating in the NBA.</p><p>Yet, with all the uncertainty surrounding the Sixers and Maxey's absence, the Knicks are 2.5-point road favorites. If its only loss is a competitive one to Ohio State, Indiana should earn an unexpected playoff bid after being +1000 to make it when its odds opened after Week 4.</p><h3>9. He was coming off somewhat of a down year on a bad <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/14" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/14">Titans</a> team, only recording 1,167 yards in 17 games, with his 4.2 yards per carry the lowest of his career.</p><p>But any risk has already paid off handsomely. In fact, Henry may be having the best season of his nine-year career.</p><p>He leads the league in carries (168), yards per carry (6.5), rushing yards (1,052), and touchdowns (13). He also tops the NFL in rushes of over 10, 20, and 30 yards. Henry's 116.9 yards per game have him on pace to come within 13 yards of 2,000, and if he could reach that milestone, it would all but guarantee him OPOY honors.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/97162" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/97162">Lamar Jackson</a> is, once again, playing at an MVP-worthy level and is the co-favorite to win the third MVP trophy of his career. The 6-3 Ravens look to be true Super Bowl contenders, and the addition of Henry has this Baltimore team feeling different from the ones of years past.</p><p>While team success is considered more heavily during MVP voting, earning the top seed in the AFC certainly won't hurt Henry's chances for OPOY. If Henry continues to dominate the NFL in key rushing stats and Jackson maintains his elite play, there's a good chance we'll see two teammates win MVP and OPOY since the 2001 St. Louis Rams (Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk).</p><p>Bettors will hope that's the case. Since the season started, Henry has received 32% of the handle wagered on the OPOY market - nearly three times the amount bet on Barkley - and 10% of the total bets.</p><h3>Saquon Barkley (+275)</h3><figure class="article-segment--table"><div class="table-responsive"><table>

Barkley's explosive rushes have single-handedly carried the Eagles to wins when the passing game has struggled.</p><p>The Ravens have the league's best total offense, while the Eagles have the sixth-best. However, Baltimore has the MVP favorite at quarterback, leading to a passing game that's as effective as its rushing attack. The team is first in rushing yards per game and third in passing yards per game.</p><p>The Eagles don't have that luxury. Philadelphia averages the second-most rushing yards per game but ranks in the league's bottom half in passing yards per game.</p><p>Without Henry, the Ravens' offense would still dominate. Without Barkley, the Eagles' season would be in the gutter, Nick Sirianni would have already been fired, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/105247" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/105247">Jalen Hurts</a>' future would be questioned.</p><p>Henry's counting stats are greater than Barkley's, but the Eagles have only played eight games, while the Ravens have played nine. That margin will shrink following Henry's bye in Week 14. Henry averages slightly more rushing yards (116.9) than Barkley (115.6), but Barkley's featured more as a pass-catcher, doubling Henry's total receptions.</p><p>The two running backs' stats will be similar if they continue on this trajectory, and there's no sign of either slowing down. But Barkley means more to his team than Henry does. Voters should see that by the time the season concludes.</p>

Plus, the Huskies reloaded with talented transfers to surround returning forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaab/players/102538" href="https://thescore.com/ncaab/players/102538">Alex Karaban</a>.</p><p>Even though Hurley's the undisputed best coach in the country, UConn isn't the favorite to cut down the nets.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaab/teams/329" href="https://thescore.com/ncaab/teams/329">Duke</a> returns as the epicenter of the college basketball universe for the first time since Mike Krzyzewski retired and Jon Scheyer took over. The Blue Devils have the best freshman in the country and presumed No. 1 overall pick <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaab/players/162169" href="https://thescore.com/ncaab/players/162169">Cooper Flagg</a>, who's projected as the best American prospect since <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/11373" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/11373">Anthony Davis</a>.</p><p>Flagg's not the only highly touted freshman who'll play a pivotal role for Duke. The Blue Devils have five of the top 35 players in the 2024 class, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2024/order/true">ESPN's rankings</a>. However, as all college basketball fans know, inexperienced freshmen don't win championships in today's older era. Scheyer complemented an elite freshman class with the right blend of returning veterans and transfers.</p><p>The Blue Devils haven't been the preseason favorite to win since 2018-19, and the historic program hasn't won a title since 2015. Dickinson's free-throw percentage also dropped from 72% to 62%. But he showcased his passing and ability to operate as a hub in Bill Self's offense. The Thunder, who earned the West's No. 1 seed last year after missing the playoffs the season prior, have the NBA's third-best net rating and are a perfect 4-0.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Mavs are an even greater threat than they were last season after the addition of <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/5334" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/5334">Klay Thompson</a>, but Doncic isn't recording noteworthy stat lines. The Slovenian is averaging 27.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists, but he's shooting just 29% from three, and the Mavs are 3-2. </p><p>The Mavs' success could determine the winner if this remains a two-horse race between Doncic and Gilgeous-Alexander. The former has been in a position to win MVP in the past, but his team didn't win enough regular-season games to earn him the distinction.</p><p>Only twice in the last 20 years has the winner come from a team below a top-three seed in its conference. This is the best supporting cast the seven-year veteran has played with, so the franchise should finish toward the top of the West standings.</p><p>Doncic averaged 33.9 points per game last season and upward of nine assists and nine rebounds. A top-five total defense, the unit is allowing the second-fewest rushing yards per game.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Mahomes, meanwhile, has merely been average. He doesn't rank in the top 15 in total passing yards, yards per attempt, or passing touchdowns. He's tied for the most interceptions thrown and ranks in the bottom third of the league in passer rating among starting quarterbacks.</p><p>So how are the Chiefs undefeated despite Mahomes' poor statistical output? Because he consistently comes through in the clutch when Kansas City needs it most. The three-time Super Bowl champ's passer rating is 84.9 this season but a whopping 119.5 in the fourth quarter. He hasn't thrown a single pick in the final frame.</p><p>The question is whether Mahomes' late-game genius and the Chiefs' defense are enough to carry them to a perfect 17-0 mark, which would make them the first undefeated regular-season team since the 2007 <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/teams/3" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/teams/3">Patriots</a>.</p><p>Oddsmakers project that's a long shot. Kansas City's odds to go undefeated are at +1200 on ESPN Bet and theScore Bet, implying there's a 7% probability the team makes history. The Chiefs' updated win total is 14.5. Mahomes' status, team success, and fourth-quarter dominance give him leeway among oddsmakers and possibly voters.
