Gottlieb responds to criticism after losing to D-II Michigan Tech

Green Bay head coach and Fox Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb countered social media criticism after his team lost to Division II Michigan Tech despite labeling seemingly inferior opponents as "Nobody U" before the contest.

The Phoenix dropped the contest against Michigan Tech 72-70 after leading by as many as 13 points in the second half.

After Green Bay's loss to Milwaukee last week, Gottlieb said he would prefer to play tougher competition for his team to learn.

"Part of the reason I want to play better teams is like, it's 2 degrees outside, it's snowing. I don't really like the idea of 'Nobody U' coming in here. What do we learn playing a game where we win by 20? There's a methodology to it, and I'm going to have to adjust moving forward."

Green Bay has now lost eight straight contests under Gottlieb, dropping to the bottom of the Horizon League with a 2-11 record. The team is also winless in league play.

Michigan Tech guard Adam Hobson responded to Gottlieb on social media.

Gottlieb, a first-time college head coach, has also drawn criticism on social media for an exchange about Sacramento State's NIL budget with ESPN's Adam Schefter earlier this week.

"Whatever I do is gonna draw a ton of attention," Gottlieb said, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello. "I have a certain tone sometimes to the way I speak and especially to the way I tweet, which can upset people. I promise you, even though it's in the negative now, it'll be in the positive soon. Keep all the receipts, and we'll just keep doing our job."

Gottlieb replaced Sundance Wicks as Green Bay's head coach after the latter left for Wyoming.

"I'm as dedicated to this job as any human being has ever been," Gottlieb added. "And I'm going to see it through until we win a Horizon League championship. This is my dream job, and I will not fall short of the 100% effort that's required."

The Phoenix square off against undefeated Drake on Saturday.
