Butler hires Nored as head coach
Butler announced Wednesday that Ronald Nored will be the school's next head coach.
"The term 'dream job' doesn't do justice to how I feel about the opportunity to lead the Butler program," Nored said in a statement. "Butler is an incredibly special place. As a player, I poured blood, sweat, and tears into this program. No one appreciates both the responsibility and the potential that comes with this position more than me."
Nored has served as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks over the past three seasons. The 36-year-old replaces Thad Matta, who retired earlier in March after completing the fourth season in his second stint with the Bulldogs.
Matta will remain at Butler as the special assistant to the president and athletic director. The longtime coach stepped away after leading the Bulldogs to a 16-16 record this season. The school hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since the 2017-18 campaign under LaVall Jordan.
Nored returns to his alma mater, where he played under Brad Stevens from 2008-12 as the starting point guard. He was a member of the 2010 and 2011 teams that reached the national championship game.
The Indianapolis native has gradually risen through the coaching ranks since his collegiate career ended. Nored spent time as an assistant with the Celtics' G League team before working with its NBA club during the 2014-15 season. He served as the head coach of the Long Island Nets from 2016-18.
Nored takes over a Butler program that's expected to have at least $9 million at its disposal next season from revenue sharing and NIL funding, a source told CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.
