Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler is entering the transfer portal in the wake of former head coach Lincoln Riley's departure for USC, Rattler announced Monday.

Rattler's future in Oklahoma was up in the air prior to Riley's shocking decision to leave for the Trojans.

The quarterback entered the season as a Heisman Trophy candidate and a possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he struggled early and was benched in October's rivalry game against Texas in favor of freshman Caleb Williams, who led a 21-point comeback.

Williams continued to explode onto the scene over six subsequent starts, racking up 1,380 passing yards and 16 touchdowns against four interceptions while adding 259 yards and four scores on the ground.

Rattler ends his Oklahoma career with 4,595 passing yards and 40 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, plus nine rushing touchdowns. He also finishes with one Big 12 championship win and a 15-2 record as a starter.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma wide receiver Theo Wease will follow Rattler into the transfer portal, sources told Mike Roach of 247Sports. The former four-star recruit had 666 yards and six touchdowns in the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, but he didn't appear this season after suffering an injury in September.
