Steve Belichick has resigned as North Carolina's defensive coordinator, the school announced Thursday.
Belichick has been on medical leave since Aug. 6.
The resignation comes weeks after North Carolina football general manager Michael Lombardi also left the Tar Heels amid a school investigation.
North Carolina announced Thursday that the school concluded an independent investigation into allegations related to culture within its football program, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
"The investigation determined that certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina's values and standards of product," the school said in a statement. "The investigation also found that these actions were isolated in scope and not a systemic failure."
Belichick joined his father, Bill, on UNC's coaching staff prior to last season after the New England Patriots legend was hired as head coach. Steve Belichick worked with Bill for the NFL franchise and spent a year with the University of Washington before being hired by the Tar Heels.
When Steve Belichick was placed on leave, Bill noted North Carolina's defensive duties would be handled collectively.
The Tar Heels are 2-0 to start the season and will play Clemson in Week 3.
