USC suspends Stephens 1 game for hit on Oregon's Moore

USC suspended linebacker Desman Stephens for his hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, the team announced Sunday.

Stephens delivered a crushing blow to Moore's head Saturday as the QB slid at the end of his scramble. Stephens received a targeting penalty and was ejected from the game.

"Desman's actions in last night's game are unacceptable and not reflective of USC football nor his personal character," the team said in a statement. "He understands his mistake, accepts the consequences of his actions, and will learn from this. The entire Trojan family wishes Dante a full recovery, and we send our best regards to him and his family."

Moore left the field on a stretcher and was taken to a hospital. Oregon coach Dan Lanning said postgame that Moore had the ability to move but didn't provide further updates. Lanning also blasted Stephens for the hit, calling it "a disgusting play."

Dylan Raiola entered the game in relief of Moore and led Oregon to a 41-27 win.

USC's next game is Saturday against Washington.
