Western Michigan's Pat Ferschweiler is among the candidates for the Toronto Maple Leafs' head coaching job, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Ferschweiler guided Western Michigan to its first national championship in 2025. The Broncos went 26-10-1 last season and lost in the regional final to eventual national champion Denver.

The 56-year-old has been at Western Michigan since 2019 and took over as head coach in 2021. Ferschweiler is in his second stint with the Broncos, having also been on the staff from 2010-14.

Ferschweiler spent four seasons in the NHL as an assistant on Jeff Blashill's staff with the Detroit Red Wings from 2015-19. The Minnesota native was an assistant with the U.S. world junior team in 2023 as well.

Other coaches linked to the Leafs include Patrick Roy, Jay Woodcroft, Joe Pavelski, and Peter Laviolette, who's now with the Los Angeles Kings.
