Newton misses 2nd straight practice, reportedly unlikely to play Week 3
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton missed his second straight practice Thursday as he nurses his mid-foot sprain, according to The Athletic's Joe Person.
With little progress made, Newton appears unlikely to be cleared for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
The former MVP was still sporting a walking boot Wednesday and reportedly won't be cleared for game action if he doesn't practice this week.
Newton aggravated the foot injury he suffered during the preseason in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina considers him day-to-day.
Second-year undrafted free agent Kyle Allen will start if Newton misses time. Allen played in two games last season, starting one. He threw two touchdown passes in a Week 17 win over the New Orleans Saints.
