Zachary Levi, star of the DC Comics movie "Shazam!" announced Wednesday that he's playing Kurt Warner in a biopic about the Hall of Fame quarterback's life.

The movie is titled "American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story."

The actor - who is also known for starring as the titular character of the NBC show "Chuck" - described Warner's rags-to-riches story as "uplifting and inspiring."

The biopic is believed to be based in part on Warner's autobiography, which was written about his legendary run with the then-St. Louis Rams and before his late-career resurgence with the Arizona Cardinals.

Warner entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 1994 but was unable to earn a roster spot with the Green Bay Packers. The quarterback famously worked at a grocery store after his release while still training at his former college.

After three seasons spent in the Arena Football League, Warner was signed by the Rams to back up Trent Green in 1999.

However, Green tore his ACL in a preseason game, forcing Warner into the starting lineup. Warner proceeded to win MVP in 1999 and 2001, and led St. Louis to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV, where he also took home the Super Bowl MVP award.

Production is scheduled to start later this year.
