Jerry Jones pitched Jets on Parsons for Williams deal
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones reached out to the New York Jets about a potential trade that would send Micah Parsons to the AFC East club for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and a number of draft picks.
"As it would turn out, I initiated that," Jones said during an interview with Gary Myers on 880AM ESPN New York. "Frankly, they didn't have the resources to entertain conversations. It was a very good brief visit."
Jones said that he had one conversation regarding the blockbuster deal involving Williams. The Cowboys owner emphasized getting a "significant, dominant, inside defensive player" in any trade scenario for Parsons to address the team's porous run defense.
Williams has been a staple of the Jets' defense since being taken third overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He's earned three Pro Bowl nods after tallying 54 tackles for loss and 40 sacks through seven seasons in New York.
The Philadelphia Eagles also contacted the Cowboys about a potential trade, but were rebuffed by Dallas, who didn't want to trade Parsons within their division.
Dallas ultimately struck a deal with the Green Bay Packers, sending Parsons north in exchange for a 2026 and 2027 first-round selection, along with defensive lineman Kenny Clark. Green Bay also signed Parsons to a record-setting four-year, $188-million contract.
