The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines Tuesday with a pair of moves involving veteran players.
Pittsburgh claimed veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen off waivers, the team announced. The move comes a day after Thielen asked the Minnesota Vikings to release him.
Additionally, the Steelers and cornerback Darius Slay mutually agreed to part ways. Slay, who was inactive during Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills despite being healthy, joined Pittsburgh on a one-year deal during the offseason.
Thielen's addition provides a boost to a Steelers team with major questions at wide receiver. They've lacked depth at the position behind DK Metcalf, and their offense scored only seven points against the Bills. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers called out his pass-catchers following the game.
Metcalf is the only Steelers wideout with at least 300 receiving yards this season. The club, which is 6-6, also rosters Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson, among others.
Thielen is a two-time Pro Bowler with three 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. However, the 35-year-old had minimal impact with the Vikings this year, catching only eight passes for 69 yards in 11 appearances.
