Seahawks shut down Patriots to win Super Bowl LX
The Seattle Seahawks did the Legion of Boom proud Sunday, delivering a defensive masterpiece to take down the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium and claiming the franchise's second Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The Seahawks held New England scoreless for three quarters, sacked MVP runner-up Drake Maye six times, and intercepted him twice - one being a pick-6 that put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter before a crowd of 70,823.
Seattle led the NFL in scoring defense during the regular season and became the first team to shut out New England's offense in any half this campaign.
Defensive linemen Derick Hall and Byron Murphy II each had two sacks for Seattle. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon continued his stellar young career, registering four tackles, one sack, three quarterback hits, and one pass breakup.
The Seahawks didn't score their first touchdown until the fourth quarter, but Jason Myers set a Super Bowl record by converting all five of his field-goal attempts, helping build a comfortable lead.
Running back Kenneth Walker led Seattle's offense by rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries. He was named Super Bowl MVP, becoming the first tailback to win the award since Terrell Davis in 1998.
Although Sam Darnold was limited to 19 completions on 38 attempts for 202 yards and one touchdown, it was enough for the quarterback to complete a remarkable career turnaround. Darnold's title comes after eight seasons and five different teams.
He also becomes the first quarterback from the infamous 2018 draft class to start and win the Super Bowl. The New York Jets took Darnold third overall that year, two spots after Baker Mayfield and before Josh Allen (No. 7) and Lamar Jackson (No. 32) went off the board.
Tight end AJ Barner scored the Seahawks' only offensive touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Darnold. Cooper Kupp led the team with six catches for 61 yards. The former Super Bowl MVP previously won a ring with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.
The Super Bowl loss marked a disappointing end to an outstanding Patriots season. Coming off a 4-13 campaign in 2024, New England posted a 14-3 record and won the AFC in its first year under Mike Vrabel.
However, the club's offense never fired on all cylinders in the postseason. In the end, Maye became the first quarterback to be sacked at least five times in four straight playoff games.
The Seahawks fell short against the Patriots in the Super Bowl 11 years ago. That game marked Seattle's second consecutive appearance on football's biggest stage, following its victory over the Denver Broncos in 2014.
Like the 2013-14 Seahawks, Seattle built an elite defensive unit in 2025 with second-year head coach Mike Macdonald in charge. At 38, Macdonald is the third-youngest sideline boss to win the Super Bowl.
The victory also marked Klint Kubiak's final game with the Seahawks. The offensive coordinator confirmed postgame that he'll take the Las Vegas Raiders' head coaching job. His dad, Gary, led the Broncos to a Super Bowl triumph at Levi's Stadium 10 years ago.
