Seattle Seahawks pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence considered retiring this offseason, but there won't be any debate next year, as he confirmed 2026 will be his final season.
"This will be my last year," Lawrence told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports on Friday.
Lawrence pondered calling it a career after winning Super Bowl LX with the Seahawks in February. He says working through his options this offseason was difficult, considering his wife and six kids remain in Dallas, where he began his NFL career.
"It was a tough process," DeMarcus said. "But through the grace of God, I'm able to play another year and soak it all up one more good time before I hang it up."
Lawrence, who joined the Seahawks last year, was a major factor in their championship run, contributing six sacks, three forced fumbles, and 20 quarterback hits during the regular season. He also caused three fumbles in the playoffs in addition to producing two sacks.
The 34-year-old is now relishing the chance to be the hunted this time around.
"We're the ones with the dot on our backs," Lawrence said last Friday, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "I just want to see how that feels, see the different obstacles that we can overcome - are we going to stay together in those tough moments throughout a season - and just be a part of this brotherhood."
A second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, Lawrence has recorded 67.5 career sacks and made five Pro Bowls.
