Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says his team is in a favorable financial position to make a trade.
The Cowboys created close to $19 million in salary-cap space this offseason after restructuring the contracts of Kenny Clark, DaRon Bland, and Jake Ferguson.
"That does show that we have really viable, serious room financially to make a trade if we wanted to right now," Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
The Cowboys have $33.6 million in cap room, according to NFLPA figures, which could be rolled over to their 2027 cap.
Jones said in July that he was willing to trade future assets to improve the Cowboys' 2026 roster. Dallas holds five picks ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft based on other transactions and won't receive any compensatory selections for players that left in free agency.
"You want all the picks you can get, but this time of the year, what you're interested in is what you've done with the picks that you've used and what you might be able to do if you could add to ... talent on the roster," Jones said.
Jones indicated that the Cowboys have continued to conduct general trade talks but said a deal isn't currently on the table. The GM added that a move to bolster the team's defensive depth would make the most sense based on his confidence in Dallas' offensive personnel.
"When you look at all of that, you probably could see more than likely depth on defense," Jones said. "But defense would be the place."
Dallas recently acquired offensive tackle Broderick Jones and a fourth-round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers for third- and sixth-round selections.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10.
The Cowboys open the regular season on the road Sunday against NFC East rivals the New York Giants.
