New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown has been ruled out for the rest of Wednesday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks after suffering an ankle injury during the third quarter.
Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett appeared to land on Brown's right ankle with his knee during an incomplete pass in the third quarter. Trainers looked at Brown on the field before he limped to the sideline and then headed to the locker room.
The 29-year-old caught three of his four targets for 26 yards Wednesday. He also drew a 34-yard defensive pass interference penalty, which helped set up the Patriots' opening touchdown.
New England acquired Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. The three-time Pro Bowl receiver has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons.
