New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers says the decision to play in Sunday night's matchup against the Dallas Cowboys will be entirely up to him, though he refused to offer any hints about his status.
Nabers, who's returning from a torn ACL sustained last season, said Thursday that he's trending in the right direction after a second full day of practice. However, he added that he could practice all week and still not play, according to Alex Smith of SNY.
"That's a possibility," Nabers said. "Like (head coach John Harbaugh) said, they're leaving the decision up to me."
He added: "Everyone has to understand that at the end of the day, it's my career, it's my body. I know when I'm able to play, and I know what I'm able to do. ... I've been wanting to play for so long now, but at the end of the day, I can't put my career at risk."
Nabers' silence on his status mirrors Harbaugh's approach after the Giants head coach told reporters on Wednesday that he wouldn't disclose any part of his game plan, including a player's availability. Although Harbaugh argued that disclosing such details would compromise the team's competitive edge, Nabers denied that he's withholding his status to keep the Cowboys guessing.
The third-year wideout had an electric rookie campaign in 2024, catching 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. He put up another 271 yards through four games last season before his injury.
"I'll let God tell me," Nabers said when asked when he expects to know if he's ready for Week 1.
