The Minnesota Vikings are placing running back Jordan Mason on injured reserve due to a thumb injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Mason, who rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers, will miss at least four games. He's expected to return this season.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell said the 27-year-old tailback sustained a small fracture in his thumb that has since been repaired, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Vikings signed DeeJay Dallas from the practice squad to fill Mason's spot on the active roster. Jerome Ford was signed to the practice roster in a subsequent move.

Minnesota will enter Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears with Aaron Jones, Demond Claiborne, and Dallas likely rounding out the depth chart at running back.

It's still unclear who will be under center for the Vikings in Week 2. Kyler Murray was a limited participant in practice Wednesday as he continues to progress through the league's concussion protocol. He exited the Vikings' victory over the Packers after getting hit by Lukas Van Ness and Javon Bullard on Minnesota's 11th offensive snap.
