Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will consult with various experts this week about his dislocated left elbow after undergoing further testing, head coach Dan Quinn announced Monday, according to team reporter Zach Selby.
Quinn said that Marcus Mariota is expected to start for the Commanders in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. He also noted that there likely won't be another update on Daniels until Thursday or Friday, per JP Finlay of NBC Sports.
Daniels dislocated his left elbow on the final play of the first half in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He suffered the injury when he used his left arm to stay balanced after losing his footing on the snap, and his elbow appeared to bend awkwardly as he hit the ground. Although he got up, Daniels quickly threw the ball away and then grabbed his left arm before going down again.
The play occurred at the Cowboys' 1-yard line with three seconds left in the second quarter. Trailing 17-10, the Commanders could have opted for a field goal instead of trying to score a touchdown on the half's final play.
Daniels also missed time last year due to a dislocated left elbow.
Mariota, who replaced Daniels at the start of the second half, finished Sunday's game with 111 passing yards and a touchdown. However, Dallas easily handled Washington, 37-20.
The 0-2 Commanders will face the Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers before their Week 7 bye.
