The Indianapolis Colts are signing free-agent wide receiver Darius Slayton after losing Alec Pierce to injury, sources told The Ringer's Tom Pelissero.
The New York Giants cut Slayton in training camp following a seven-year run with the team. He played six seasons with Colts quarterback Daniel Jones during his tenure with the Giants, eclipsing 700 receiving yards four times.
Pierce is expected to be out for several weeks after aggravating a left heel injury on Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Pierce will reportedly attempt to rehab the injury without undergoing surgery and could return midseason if all goes well.
The 26-year-old underwent ankle surgery on the same leg this offseason and received multiple PRP injections leading up to the start of the campaign.
Pierce led the Colts in receiving in each of the last two seasons, posting a career-high 1,003 yards in 2025. Indianapolis signed him to a four-year, $114-million contract in March.
Josh Downs, who snagged a team-high seven catches for 72 yards on Sunday, projects to serve as the Colts' top receiver until Pierce returns - even with Slayton in the mix. Tight end Tyler Warren also figures to see more targets.
