The Minnesota Vikings' running back situation remains uncertain ahead of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Aaron Jones Sr. deals with a knee injury, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said the Vikings planned to hold Jones out of practice Wednesday.
Jones' absence, combined with Jordan Mason being placed on injured reserve last week after fracturing his thumb, leaves rookie Demond Claiborne as Minnesota's only healthy halfback who went through training camp with the team.
The Vikings recently elevated DeeJay Dallas from their practice squad and signed Jerome Ford and Jaret Patterson to combat their losses at the position.
Jones rushed for 105 yards on 23 carries in the Vikings' 9-3 win over the Chicago Bears last week. The 31-year-old revealed afterward that he finished the game wearing a knee brace.
O'Connell indicated that Jones feels "pretty good" but wouldn't confirm his status ahead of Sunday's contest.
"We'll just keep getting treatment around the clock and see if we can pick up his workload as the week goes on," O'Connell said.
Jones has rushed for 1,831 yards and eight touchdowns over 31 appearances with Minnesota. He joined the Vikings ahead of the 2024 campaign after spending seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
