Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater will be placed on injured reserve after undergoing ankle surgery Thursday, the team announced Friday.
The procedure is intended to speed up Slater's return from the high ankle sprain he suffered in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Slater will now miss at least the next four games.
He left Sunday's game against the Seahawks in the fourth quarter and didn't return. Rookie Logan Taylor slid from guard to left tackle to replace Slater for the rest of the contest.
Slater had started all four games this season, allowing one sack and eight pressures on 152 pass-blocking snaps, according to PFF. He signed a four-year, $114-million extension in 2025 and is the league's second highest-paid offensive lineman based on average annual salary. He missed all of last season after tearing his patellar tendon in training camp.
Chargers right tackle Joe Alt left last Sunday's game due to a neck injury and hasn't practiced yet this week. Offensive linemen Trevor Penning and Kayode Awosika also haven't practiced due to injuries leading up to Los Angeles' contest against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
