Some NFL doctors think it's a matter of when, not if, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will injure his left elbow again, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
There are medical professionals around the league - including some that haven't examined Daniels - who believe the signal-caller is at a higher risk of suffering further damage to his arm because he's already dislocated his elbow twice over the last year, Schefter adds.
Daniels will wear a brace to protect his non-throwing elbow for the rest of the season starting Sunday as he returns to the lineup against the New York Giants.
The 25-year-old missed the last two games after sustaining the ailment in Washington's Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was a full participant in every practice this week and has no injury designation for Sunday.
"He's full go," offensive coordinator David Blough said Thursday when asked if Daniels' injured elbow will impact his game plan, according to ESPN's John Keim. "We're looking forward to having him back."
After winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, Daniels missed 10 contests last year with multiple injuries, including a dislocated elbow.
Rookie signal-caller Athan Kaliakmanis will back up Daniels after Marcus Mariota was ruled out with an MCL sprain.
Washington is 1-3 heading into Week 5 against the Giants.
