The Carolina Panthers have moved on from defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero after their 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, the team announced Friday.
Defensive line coach Todd Wash will call plays on defense moving forward and serve as the interim defensive coordinator.
In addition to Evero, defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley has also been let go.
The changes come with the Panthers' defense allowing 27.6 points per game, 27th in the NFL.
Evero has served as Carolina's defensive coordinator since 2023. His defenses have never ranked better than 15th in points allowed, which occurred last season.
Evero held the Denver Broncos' defensive coordinator job for the 2022 season but was released from his contract to pursue other opportunities once Sean Payton took the team's head coaching job in 2023. His Denver unit gave up the 14th most points in 2022.
The Panthers started the season 3-2 but have dropped to 3-4 after two straight losses. They still rank first in the NFC South.
