The Philadelphia Eagles have made it clear to teams across the league that they will not trade running back Saquon Barkley before the Nov. 10 deadline, sources told ESPN's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
Despite Philly's recent struggles, general manager Howie Roseman views Barkley as a key piece for 2027 and believes the team can contend next season. However, Roseman has held trade talks about other players on the roster to try to acquire future draft capital before Nov. 10.
Barkley is under contract through the 2028 season after signing a two-year, $41.2-million extension in March 2025. He's due to make just over $35 million before his contract expires.
The 29-year-old has battled multiple injuries this season, recording just 43 carries for 244 yards with one touchdown. He's currently dealing with hamstring and back issues that limited his workload against the Dallas Cowboys last week. He was a limited participant in Friday's practice but is expected to suit up on Sunday night versus the Washington Commanders.
"One day I'm not going to be playing football. Whenever that is, I don't want to look back and be like, 'I could've gave it a chance and I didn't,'" Barkley said Friday about fighting through injuries this season.
"I like playing football. So if I have an opportunity to play, I'm going to try my best to play."
Philadelphia has lost five straight games after a 2-0 start, with injuries plaguing the team.
Starting quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season due to blood clots, and wide receiver DeVonta Smith has also played only four games this year and will miss Sunday night's contest.
With Barkley off the trade market, Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor is set to be the top running back target for teams looking for help before the deadline.
The Colts are now reportedly open to trading the veteran before Nov. 10. The Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks are among the teams interested in acquiring Taylor.
