The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Stanley Cup champion Steven Lorentz to a professional tryout agreement, the team announced Wednesday.
Lorentz spent last season with the Florida Panthers, recording three points in 38 regular-season games. He added two goals and an assist in 16 playoff contests during Florida's Stanley Cup run.
The 28-year-old has played both center and wing over his four-year NHL career, tallying 21 goals and 22 assists in 230 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks, and Panthers.
Lorentz, a native of Kitchener, Ontario, will aim to carve out a depth role with his hometown team. He lacks offense but brings size (6-foot-4, 206 pounds), physicality, and penalty-killing ability to the table.
