University of Denver and United States world junior head coach David Carle is the Chicago Blackhawks' most desired candidate as the club seeks a permanent hire behind the bench, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reported on CHSN.

Carle's led the Pioneers to two national championships and guided USA to back-to-back gold medals at the world juniors. He's widely viewed as the top up-and-coming coach in the sport, and the Blackhawks aren't the only NHL team with interest, Seravalli notes.

The Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, and Philadelphia Flyers all have interim head coaches right now, and there will probably be more NHL vacancies after the regular season concludes.

Chicago fired Luke Richardson after an 8-16-2 start to the season, and replacement Anders Sorensen went 15-30-9. The Blackhawks finished 31st in the league standings for the second consecutive campaign.

It's unclear if Carle wants to leave Denver, where he's coached for 16 years. His first term with the Pioneers spanned from the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons as an assistant coach and Denver student before a stint in the USHL. He rejoined Denver in 2014 as an assistant and was named head coach in 2018.
