Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Brandon Carlo's name has emerged in trade talks, reports TSN's Chris Johnston.
The Maple Leafs' reported asking price for Carlo is multiple mid-round draft picks.
Toronto bolstered the right side of its blue line with the addition of Darren Raddysh in a sign-and-trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. The club is also expecting to get back a healthy Chris Tanev after the veteran missed 71 games due to injury last season. Raddysh is locked up for eight years, while Tanev is signed for the next four seasons.
Those commitments reduce the likelihood of an extension for Carlo, who's signed for one more season with a $3.49-million cap hit.
The Maple Leafs acquired Carlo from the Boston Bruins at the 2025 trade deadline for a package including Fraser Minten and a first-round pick. Carlo helped fortify Toronto's blue line down the stretch that year and into the 2025 playoffs, but his play regressed last season.
Carlo has been strong defensively for the majority of his 10-year career, and given the appetite for 6-foot-5, right-shooting defensemen around the league, he figures to generate plenty of interest.
