The Toronto Maple Leafs and Morgan Rielly are likely to explore trade options this offseason, as the veteran defenseman has softened his stance on waiving his no-movement clause, according to The Athletic's Chris Johnston.

Rielly would have to approve the destination in any potential trade. He's under contract through the 2029-30 season at a cap hit of $7.5 million.

The 32-year-old is Toronto's longest-tenured player, suiting up for 13 seasons with the club after being drafted fifth overall in 2012. Rielly ranks second in franchise history in points by a defenseman (549) and third in games played (951).

He notched 36 points this season, his lowest total since the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign. Rielly's minus-18 rating in 2025-26 marks the second worst of his career.

The Maple Leafs face a pivotal summer after missing the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. Toronto brought in John Chayka and Mats Sundin to run its front office after firing former general manager Brad Treliving, and the team remains in search of a head coach following the dismissal of Craig Berube earlier in May.

Toronto has over $22 million in projected cap space, according to PuckPedia, and will select first overall in June following its surprising draft lottery win.
