The New Jersey Devils signed forward Luke Evangelista to a five-year contract extension that carries an average annual value of $7.25 million, the team announced late Tuesday.
The contract will begin in the 2027-28 season. Evangelista was scheduled for restricted free agency next summer.
New Jersey acquired Evangelista from the Nashville Predators earlier in September for first- and second-round draft picks. He's coming off a career year in which he posted 56 points in 81 games.
Nashville drafted Evangelista 42nd overall in 2020. He played 253 games for the organization, notching 45 goals and 97 assists.
Evangelista is a candidate to play a top-six winger role for New Jersey this year as the club looks to get back to the playoffs after missing out last season. The Devils had a quiet offseason in terms of player acquisitions but notably hired Sunny Mehta from the Florida Panthers to be their general manager after firing Tom Fitzgerald.
