The Minnesota Wild and general manager Bill Guerin have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan.
Guerin, who's held his role in Minnesota's front office since 2019, is fresh off winning the NHL's general manager of the year award for the 2025-26 season. During the campaign, he orchestrated a blockbuster trade to acquire Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks and picked the United States' gold-medal-winning roster for the Milan Cortina Olympics.
Guerin is currently under immense pressure to retain Hughes, who's been eligible for an extension since July 1 but has stated he's in no rush to ink a new deal as the regular season approaches. Hughes will become an unrestricted free agent next summer if the two sides don't agree on a new contract before then.
Guerin has made several notable moves to help the Wild ascend into contenders in the Western Conference. He signed Kirill Kaprizov to an eight-year extension last fall, acquired defenseman Brock Faber from the Los Angeles Kings in 2022, and selected goaltender Jesper Wallstedt in the first round of the 2021 draft.
The Wild have reached the playoffs in six of the past seven seasons but have won only one series in that span.
