Tiger maintains 3-shot lead in Japan as darkness suspends play
Tiger Woods is seven holes away from history.
The 43-year-old sits at 2-under through 11 holes of Round 4 to hold a three-shot lead over Hideki Matsuyama as darkness suspended play at the Zozo Championship.
After posting a third-round 66 earlier in the day, Tiger changed into his iconic Sunday red and birdied the first hole of Round 4. Later, he erased a bogey with back-to-back birdies to get to 18-under for the tournament, which is where he would stay. He played 29 holes during a marathon day in Japan.
Tiger led by as many as five strokes at one point. However, Matsuyama ended his day with two straight birdies to narrow the gap. The Japanese star has six holes remaining in his final round.
If Tiger is able to hold onto his commanding lead, he will collect win No. 82 to match Sam Snead for the most PGA Tour titles of all time.
The final round will resume Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
