Longtime golf analyst and three-time Open champion Nick Faldo took aim at Bryson DeChambeau's tactics in the lead-up to this week's major at Royal Birkdale.
"I'd say it to his face, DeChambeau has zero clue of strategy," Faldo said on Sky Sports, per ESPN.
"He said last year: 'I'm going to go out and attack the links.' Well, I've never attacked a links. You thread it, don't you? You feed it down the fairway. You look at the humps and bumps. If I send it over and feed it, it nudges back into play. You don't think: 'Oh, I'll just blast it down there. Can't see where I'm going.' The fairway is 20 yards wide."
DeChambeau has missed the cut at all three majors this season, and his history at the Open Championship is inconsistent. He has two top 10s, including one last year at Royal Portrush, but he's also missed two cuts and has finishes of T-33 and T-60 on his resume.
The 32-year-old has two wins on LIV Golf this season and believes he can end his major struggles this week.
"This is a tough golf course; I like it," DeChambeau said. "It really tests every facet of your game. ...
"If I feel good, I know I can give myself a chance. I know I haven't had the best results this year, but I've won twice and top three'd three times. Just a couple of weird things happening at majors."
DeChambeau is scheduled to tee off at 4:58 a.m. ET in Round 1 on Thursday alongside defending champion Scottie Scheffler and fellow LIV member Tyrrell Hatton.
