When Yoenis Cespedes decides it's time to hang up his cleats, he knows exactly where he wants to end his career, and it may be a place one might not expect.

The 31-year-old Cuban slugger, who is locked into a contract with the New York Mets until the end of the 2020 season, wants to finish his career in an Oakland Athletics uniform.

"I wish that happens," Cespedes told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I told (Jerry) Blevins, 'I don’t know how many years I'm going to play, but I'm going to play the last year of my career with Oakland.' I don't know if that’s possible or not, but that's my goal."

Cespedes was first signed by the Athletics in 2012 as an amateur free agent, before eventually becoming one of the game's biggest stars, amassing 146 home runs during six seasons with the Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Mets.

"I still love the A's, they were the first team to give me an opportunity to play in the big leagues," Cespedes added. "I love Oakland all the time."

After signing a four-year, $36-million contract with the Athletics in 2012, Cespedes spent two and a half seasons with Oakland, where he hit .262/.318/.470 with 66 home runs, 229 RBIs, and 26 steals.
