Reds tease Pirates about 2020 truce after multiple brawls last season
The official Twitter account of the Cincinnati Reds tried to make peace with the Pittsburgh Pirates a day before Valentine's Day after the two clubs were handed 48 games worth of suspensions combined following multiple brawls in 2019.
The player pictured is left-hander Amir Garrett, who was handed an eight-game ban for memorably charging toward Pittsburgh's dugout during a game in late July.
The Pirates' account fired back with a cheeky response that iPhone users should be familiar with.
The Reds followed that up by sending a GIF of utility man Derek Dietrich, who ignited last season's heated rivalry after admiring a home run against the Pirates in early April.
A benches-clearing brawl eventually broke out in the game.
The two teams will meet April 2 for the first of 19 times in 2020.
