The Houston Astros announced Friday that designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, right-handed pitcher Jose Urquidy, and left-hander Cionel Perez have been cleared to return to baseball activities, according to The Athletic's Jake Kaplan.
The three players will remain on the injured list while they rehab at the team's alternate training site after missing time during Houston's summer camp for undisclosed reasons.
Alvarez's return would be a major boost to the Astros' lineup. The 23-year-old was named AL Rookie of the Year in 2019 after hitting .313/.412/.655 with 27 home runs and 78 RBIs in 87 games.
Urquidy, 25, was expected to begin the regular season in Houston's rotation before he wound up on the IL. The Mexican authored a 3.95 ERA and 3.68 FIP in nine appearances (seven starts) last season.
The 24-year-old Perez appeared in five games for the Astros last year, allowing 10 earned runs in nine innings of work.
