The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-hander Ken Giles on the injured list with the same elbow issue that already cost the closer a good chunk of the 2020 campaign, manager Charlie Montoyo announced Wednesday, according to Scott Mitchell of TSN.
Montoyo said Giles had an MRI but the results have not come back yet.
Toronto activated Giles from the 45-day IL last week after he pitched just 1 2/3 innings at the beginning of the season. The 29-year-old owns a 9.82 ERA in four appearances in 2020 after posting a 1.87 ERA with 23 saves last year.
The Blue Jays activated slugger Teoscar Hernandez in one of several corresponding moves, but he won't be in the lineup Wednesday against the New York Yankees, reports Mitchell. Hernandez, 27, recovered quickly after the team placed the outfielder on the 10-day IL on Sept. 7 with an oblique injury.
Toronto also activated pitchers Jacob Waguespack and Hector Perez and optioned lefty Anthony Kay. Outfielder Derek Fisher landed on the IL with a knee injury after getting hit during batting practice.
