The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling upon veteran right-hander Max Scherzer to preserve a 2-1 lead in the 9th inning of Game 5 of the NLDS against the San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers took the lead in the top half of the inning on a Cody Bellinger RBI-single off Giants reliever Camilo Doval.
The 37-year-old Scherzer is taking over for closer Kenley Jansen, who threw a scoreless eighth.
Scherzer threw 110 pitches over seven innings while allowing one run on three hits in Game 3 on Monday, and he'll be pitching on two days of rest. It's a must-win for both the Dodgers and Giants, as the loser will be eliminated.
