The New York Yankees don't appear to be keen on adding a star shortstop for next season.

New York's front office has discussed a trade with the Texas Rangers for infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, sources told Andy Martino of SNY.

The Yankees are also among several clubs to contact free-agent shortstop Andrelton Simmons, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

It was previously reported that the Bronx Bombers prefer to find a stopgap until the team's top shortstop prospects are ready to take over. Two of New York's top three prospects - Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza - play the position.

Kiner-Falefa, a Gold Glover in 2020, hit eight homers with 20 stolen bases and a .670 OPS over 158 games for Texas last season. Meanwhile, Simmons slashed .223/.283/.274 with three round-trippers across 131 contests for the Minnesota Twins. The latter has won four Gold Gloves in his 10-year career.

Top free-agent shortstops Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Javy Baez have reportedly landed contracts worth a combined $640 million this offseason. Trevor Story and Carlos Correa are still available. However, numerous Yankees don't like Correa because of his part in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
