Braves' Albies placed on 60-day IL with fractured left foot
Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured left foot during his fifth-inning at-bat Monday against the Washington Nationals, the team announced.
The Braves placed Albies on the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. With the open spot on the 40-man roster, the club selected infielder Phil Gosselin.
The injury appeared to happen as he left the batter's box while grounding out. After he fell down, Albies slowly left the field without help but was then seen hopping on one foot toward the clubhouse.
Braves manager Brian Snitker couldn't provide a timetable for Albies' return.
"I hate it for Ozzie. Hate it for us," Snitker said following the Braves' 9-5 win over Washington, per Bally Sports South. "It's one of them things. He'll be fine, he's young, he'll heal quick. I just hate it for the kid because he loves playing baseball, and he's such a big part of our club here."
The 25-year-old owns a .244/.289/.405 slash line with eight home runs and 33 RBIs through 62 games this season.
Albies' injury comes amid a torrid stretch for the Braves, who've now won 12 straight contests to move within five games of first place in the NL East.
