The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Mookie Betts on the injured list with a cracked rib, the club announced Sunday.

Manager Dave Roberts is optimistic that Betts can return in around two weeks, but the team will have a better idea of his timetable based on how he feels over the next few days, according to Juan Toribio of MLB.com.

Betts suffered the injury during an outfield collision with teammate Cody Bellinger on Wednesday. He finished that game but was scratched on both Friday and Saturday due to soreness. An MRI confirmed the injury.

"You're taking one of the best players in baseball out of the lineup. It's a big blow, but we're going to get him back sooner rather than later," Roberts said, according to Moreno.

The 29-year-old is enjoying another fine season for the Dodgers, hitting .273/.349/.535 with 17 homers, 40 RBIs, six stolen bases, and a National League-leading 53 runs scored.

Utility player Zach McKinstry is likely to be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City once Betts is officially placed on the IL Sunday, Roberts said, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
