Chicago White Sox skipper Tony La Russa won't manage again this season under advice from doctors following the completion of additional tests and medical procedures, the club announced Saturday.

La Russa took a leave of absence at the end of August because of an unspecified medical issue. He wound up having a pacemaker inserted for his heart.

Bench coach Miguel Cairo will finish the campaign as Chicago's acting manager.

Losers of four straight, the 76-75 White Sox have 11 games left on the slate ahead of Saturday's visit from the Detroit Tigers. They sit 6.5 games back of the final wild-card spot.

La Russa, 77, was hired by the White Sox prior to last season after not managing since 2011.
