Report: Mets among teams pursuing Benintendi
The New York Mets are among the teams talking with free-agent outfielder Andrew Benintendi, the New York Post's Joel Sherman reports.
Benintendi is also being looked at by the New York Yankees and Houston Astros, according to Sherman, and a previous report had the 28-year-old connected to the Seattle Mariners.
The Mets reportedly view Benintendi as a potential replacement for Brandon Nimmo, who's expected to command a lucrative free-agent deal after getting on base at a .367 clip and recording the highest outs above average (six) of his seven-year career last season.
Benintendi has played the majority of his games in left field, which means the Mets would likely have to shift one of Starling Marte or Mark Canha to center or sign someone else.
The former Boston Red Sox outfielder appeared in his first All-Star Game last season for the Kansas City Royals before he was traded to the Yankees in July.
Between the Royals and Yankees, Benintendi hit .304/.373/.399 with 23 doubles and 51 RBIs.
