Yankees' Boone: 'The league is upset' about ejection

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is no stranger to being ejected for speaking his mind. However, Hunter Wendelstedt tossing him Monday for a fan's heckle has drawn the ire of league officials.

"(The league) is not happy about how things were handled, obviously, but I'm ready to move on," Boone said on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast.

"Although what (Wendelstedt) said to me, I was totally in line with - I agreed with him, it was a good explanation - the velocity and vigor with which he came back, I didn't think was right."

Major League Baseball is expected to look into the incident involving Boone, Wendelstedt, and the fan, sources told the New York Daily News' Gary Phillips, though this type of review is reportedly standard practice for all ejections.

Boone told The Athletic's Brendan Kuty that the league has assured him that he won't be fined for his ejection.

Wendelstedt will remain part of the umpiring crew Tuesday for the second game in the Yankees' four-game series versus the Oakland Athletics, who won the opener 2-0.
