New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge is going on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, the team announced Friday.
The three-time AL MVP could return before the wild-card round if he's healthy enough to be activated.
However, manager Aaron Boone said he doesn't know the severity of Judge's injury or when he could be back.
"I don't know," Boone responded when asked if Judge will return for the playoffs, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "I don't have a timeline on him. I'm not going to predict anything. We'll just obviously treat it and see what transpires."
The skipper added: "The reality is, we've had to play a lot of the season this year without him. There's no replacing a player who is as great as Aaron Judge, but we have high expectations. Those don't change now."
Judge was hurt during Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. He departed early due to leg tightness.
The 34-year-old superstar will miss the Yankees' four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. New York sits five games behind Tampa Bay for the AL East lead entering play Friday with the regular season ending Sept. 27.
It's all but a formality the Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox in a best-of-three wild-card series to begin the postseason Sept. 29.
Judge has hit 18 homers with 41 RBIs and an .871 OPS over 66 games. He missed over three months earlier this season because of a stress fracture in his rib.
