Red Sox manager Cora: Casas out 'a while' with fractured rib

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has a fractured left rib, manager Alex Cora announced Tuesday.

"He'll be out for a while," Cora said, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

"Obviously, we had a pretty good idea a few days ago, but after all the tests in Boston, that's what came out. We just have to be patient now. Timetable? There's none. This has to heal on its own. We've just got to be patient."

Casas was removed from a game last Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates following an awkward swing during an at-bat. He was subsequently placed on the 10-day injured list with a rib strain after undergoing testing. A follow-up MRI revealed the fracture.

The 24-year-old was off to a good start for the Red Sox, slashing .244/.344/.513 with six home runs and 10 RBIs in 22 games.

Bobby Dalbec will get the majority of playing time at first base during Casas' absence, according to Cora.
