The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Roansy Contreras from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations, both teams announced Thursday.

The Pirates designated Contreras for assignment on May 11. The Angels had an open spot on the 40-man roster after designating left-hander Amir Garrett for assignment Wednesday.

Contreras posted a 4.41 ERA and 8.82 K/9 in 12 relief appearances for the Pirates this season.

The 24-year-old's best season came in 2022 when he went 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA and 8.15 K/9 in 21 appearances (18 starts) for the Pirates.

Pittsburgh acquired Contreras as part of the trade that sent Jameson Taillon to the New York Yankees in January 2021.
