Dodgers placing Buehler on IL with hip issue, no timetable for return

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Walker Buehler on the 15-day injured list with right hip inflammation, they announced Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was battling discomfort in the days leading up to his start in Colorado on Tuesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, according to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. He also took a line drive off his hip during the game.

The Dodgers did not provide a timetable for his return.

Buehler returned from a nearly two-year layoff following Tommy John surgery last month, and the two-time All-Star has struggled since rejoining L.A.'s rotation. He's posted a 5.84 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 10 home runs allowed and a career-low 7.5 K/9 rate over eight starts. Buehler's issues reached a head on Tuesday when he allowed seven runs on as many hits in four innings.

Los Angeles had been counting on the pass-hurler returning to his old form this year given the team's litany of pitching injuries. His latest ailment comes just a few days after star rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto landed on the IL with a rotator cuff strain.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers activated right-hander Bobby Miller from the IL ahead of his starting Wednesday's game at Coors Field. Miller, 25, hasn't pitched in the majors since early April due to shoulder inflammation.
