The Seattle Mariners placed first baseman Ty France on irrevocable outright waivers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
France, who carries a guaranteed $6.775-million salary this season, can now be claimed by any team. If he clears waivers, the Mariners can send him to the minor leagues, but the 30-year-old would be allowed to refuse the assignment due to his accumulated service time.
Tyler Locklear is now expected to play first base full-time for Seattle, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
France, an All-Star in 2022, has struggled to a .662 OPS with eight home runs across 88 games with the Mariners in 2024.
He entered Sunday with a career 113 OPS+ over six seasons.
