Sánchez: D-Backs fans will like me because 'I kill right-handed pitching'

Jesús Sánchez was excited to join the Arizona Diamondbacks after being designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays, and he offered his new team's fans a suggestion as to why they'll enjoy having him on their club.

"I kill right-handed pitching," the 28-year-old said ahead of his D-Backs debut Tuesday.

Sánchez owned the Blue Jays' second-highest OPS (.781) against right-handed pitching. He was frequently pinch hit for against left-handers or replaced defensively late in games thanks to his .354 OPS against southpaws and his minus-8 outs above average.

He made a number of costly defensive blunders in the outfield for Toronto, including his notable failure to make plays on two fly balls in a Aug. 19 game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sánchez debuted at designated hitter for the D-Backs on Tuesday against Miami Marlins right-hander Janson Junk. He went 1-for-3 and was removed in the eighth inning for a pinch hitter.
